Hunt for a Free Mushroom Suncatcher in Manhattan [6/08/24]

Join the Game of Shrooms scavenger hunt on June 8th and see if you can find one of my hidden stained glass "Shroom Drops" in New York City!

These miniature works of art will be waiting to be discovered across the city, think you'll be able to spot one?

What is Game of Shrooms?

Game of Shrooms (GoS) is a worldwide art scavenger hunt held every June 8th. Artists of all mediums and skill-levels hide mushroom-themed art all over their city, and anyone can join the hunt to find these hidden treasures! It's a fun way to explore your city, discover new art, and maybe even score a free piece for your collection.

Game of Shrooms was started by Daniel “Attaboy” Seifert in 2019 for everyone who loves mushrooms & art, and it has grown every year since, with more artists joining in on the hunt. Anyone can hide art, anyone can hunt for art. You can hide art without hunting. You can hunt for art without hiding. There are no rules, except for these rules

Why am I Participating?

As a new artist in New York City, I'm excited to help bring my favorite West Coast holiday to the East Coast art community. I first learned about GoS in 2021 while living in San Francisco, beside the founder in Oakland, CA.

This year's Shroom Drops are my way of saying hello to the city and sharing my passion for stained glass art.

How to Play:

  • Follow me on Instagram @FunkyFractals for hints on the hiding spots for my Shroom Drops.

  • Head out on June 8th to explore Manhattan with fresh eyes! Keep an eye out for cleverly hidden art in parks, shops, or other public spaces described in my hints.

  • If you find one of my Shroom Drops, congratulations! It's yours to keep as a free, one-of-a-kind souvenir. Just be sure to tag me on social media and use the hashtags #GameofShrooms2024 and #ShroomDrop to let me know you found it!

Limited Edition Art Hunt:

There are only a limited number of Shroom Drops hidden throughout Manhattan, so don't wait! Get out there on June 8th and be one of the lucky few to find a piece of my art.

Happy Hunting!

P.S. For those who don't manage to find a Shroom Drop, check out my shop where you can purchase your own stained glass art or order a custom piece!

Tips for Hiding Art:

  • Stick to spots that are easy to reach but not too easy to spot.

  • Plant or place art without hurting nature or property and avoid protected areas.

  • If you can't find a good hiding spot outdoors, try asking a small business if you can hide it in their shop.

  • Once you've hidden your art, snap a few photos to use for hints on social media. Try to include photos of nearby landmarks or buildings to help narrow down the hunt.

    What to Hide:

As long as it is waterproofed and you go back later to pick it up if no one takes it, you can hide any type of mushroom art you want! Wood carvings, paintings, resin art, crochet, anything goes

How to Hunt for Art (General Tips):

    • Check out the map to see if any artists are participating in your area.

    • Click the artist link to follow them on social media.

    • Check their page on June 8th for hints to the hiding spots.

    • Please let the artist know you found their work by tagging them or sending them a message.

    • Be careful and pay attention to your surroundings. Game of Shrooms is an at-your-own-risk event.
