Meet the Artist
Hi, my name is Katie Das! 👋
I am a stained glass artist based in Manhattan, transforming broken glass into one-of-a-kind custom artwork. I use the copper foil method, pioneered right here in NYC by Louis C. Tiffany - heir to Tiffany & Co. My process involves designing patterns, cutting shapes from glass sheets, grinding each piece to size, wrapping them in copper foil, and soldering them together to create glass art that is made to last.
When I'm not in the studio, you can find me:
- Exploring the city with my dogs, Yoshi & Zuko
- Feeding pigeons in Central Park
- Laughing (too loudly) at live comedy shows
- Zooming around on my Onewheel
My artistic style is in constant evolution, shaped by the ever-changing environments I've called home. From growing up in a small town in Arkansas, to spending 9 years in California, a year snowed into Utah, before finally landing in New York City in March 2024.
Through the last 8 years moving through 9 different apartments, San Francisco's lockdowns, Salt Lake City's record-breaking winter, and now the bustle of New York City, my constants have been my husband, my pets, and my love of art.
My goal is to create stained glass pieces that not only beautify spaces but also narrate stories of transformation, mirroring my own journey. To me, stained glass art serves as a powerful reminder: even when life seems to be shattering around you, you can still craft something beautiful from the fragments.
